Things to Consider When Deciding to study Public Relations

The first I joined the UJ family I was very excited and confused at the same time as I didn't know what I was going to study since I was rejected for what I applied for (Psychology) because of bad marks. So what happened was I was contacted by the university saying I should come through and write the black board computer test, now at that moment I became even more confused , I rushed to campus and took the test I passed off course and asked one of the invigilators what was going on, that’s when I checked the student portal and checked the application link https://student.uj.ac..za/status.aspx and realized that I qualified for Public Relations and Communications. I was very happy that I qualified for something not knowing what it was and because I was too smart I didn't do my research to find out what it was but today I’m doing my second year and really enjoying it. So today I’ll be giving you tips on the Things to consider when studying Public Relations.
                                                                  http://goo.gl/7hcmy2
Firstly which I think is one of the most important ones Do your research properly http://goo.gl/yNiZju  know what public relations is and understand how public relations practitioners work. Don’t be smart about it, know you staff.
Secondly are you a people’s person, do you get involved in staff like the social media and netwrks and do you know the current news, do you know what’s new and what’s old. Basically are you up to date with everything which is also important to know as the future Public Relations Practitioner, and be 100% sure that PR is something you really want to do in life.

Thirdly are you as honest, creative, thorough, clear and aware as you think you are? PR, better known by some as Spin, is about putting the best light on a situation, helping to portray issues, companies, organizations, in a positive way.  That doesn’t mean lying.  (If you have to lie, it’s probably not a very good product.) A good PR person helps a client tell the truth even when it’s not so pleasant. Are you able to connect products and convince people to buy something? http://goo.gl/btP8fk
Forthly are you an excellent writer and speaker, in order to become a good public relations practitioner these are the skills you have to have or at least pretend to have as long as you can maintain it.
Lastly be dedicated in everything you do, have the passion for it and get involved in. Connect yourself through twitter, facebook, blogging etc. And always be objective when it comes to change.

Well hope you enjoyed it and will consider the tips, stay tuned for my next blog till then.

  2. True, a lot of people would ask me what is PR and what do you do and staff. Those kind of questions make you question yourself sometimes.

  3. I also never chose PR and kind of just ended up there. Well, I can now say that PR chose me because I have fallen in love with it and I can't wait to gain experience in the field. It is indeed important to do research before you start studying a module and know exactly which field you will go into. PR is awesome

  4. So do I. The exciting part about PR is by looking deeper into it, you will get to find out that by using it properly it also focuses on working with people mostly from different communities such as it can be the media, organisations, individuals but my favourite one is: applying PR into community relations. Working with people who are different is never a bad idea in fact its always a good thing because making a difference in people's lives can be the best thing that's ever happened in a person's life or work.

It is unfortunate that you were forced to accept your fate, as it seems so it's good that now people who are interested in studying this course can now know what it is that PR is about, with your help.. Nice one.
