10 Things PR students should and shouldn't say or do on Social Media.

Think before you act

Unless you've been living under a rock or in a cave, you should know that social media has taken over and its one of the best ways to interact with people from all corners of the world through social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Linkdln and many more. Technology has changed our perception towards a lot of things and has made life easier for us to get connected and exposed or be exposed through our own social network accounts.

A lot of us don’t know that the past always finds a way to haunt you, what you think is funny today and post on your account might not be as funny in future.

6 Things that shouldn't be on Social Media as the future Public Relations Practitioner.

#1. Never post pictures of yourself showing that you are inebriated or that you’re having a party and counting how many guests you have and who’s still coming or even worse naked pictures of yourself.

#3. Don’t share photos or an event that reveals that you were not sick that day you missed work or school.

#4. Choose your words wisely towards anything or anyone you posting about. Never swear online or say things you normally wouldn't say face to face.

#5. Never post about your personal problems like relationship problems or family problems, fact is 80% don’t really care and 20% are actually happy that you have them. Draw the line.

#6. Last but not least, NEVER share your passwords with anyone or let someone post on your behalf. And own up to everything you post never delete anything or else you’ll look as guilty.

#1. Follow and comment polite comments about your favorite brands, build and maintain relationships with them as this can have a positive impact on your reputation.

#2. Be influential by posting positive things about anything or comment on a trending topic as this can attract more followers. Make Social Media interesting

#3. When posting pictures make sure you post good pictures of yourself, maybe a professional picture with a very positive background.

#4. Know when to call it quits, don’t comment on everyone’s accounts as you will start annoying people. Always keep it short when commenting, its not a blog it’s a simple comment.

Things to Consider When Deciding to study Public Relations

The first I joined the UJ family I was very excited and confused at the same time as I didn't know what I was going to study since I was rejected for what I applied for (Psychology) because of bad marks. So what happened was I was contacted by the university saying I should come through and write the black board computer test, now at that moment I became even more confused , I rushed to campus and took the test I passed off course and asked one of the invigilators what was going on, that’s when I checked the student portal and checked the application link https://student.uj.ac..za/status.aspx and realized that I qualified for Public Relations and Communications. I was very happy that I qualified for something not knowing what it was and because I was too smart I didn't do my research to find out what it was but today I’m doing my second year and really enjoying it. So today I’ll be giving you tips on the Things to consider when studying Public Relations.
                                                                  http://goo.gl/7hcmy2
Firstly which I think is one of the most important ones Do your research properly http://goo.gl/yNiZju  know what public relations is and understand how public relations practitioners work. Don’t be smart about it, know you staff.
Secondly are you a people’s person, do you get involved in staff like the social media and netwrks and do you know the current news, do you know what’s new and what’s old. Basically are you up to date with everything which is also important to know as the future Public Relations Practitioner, and be 100% sure that PR is something you really want to do in life.

Thirdly are you as honest, creative, thorough, clear and aware as you think you are? PR, better known by some as Spin, is about putting the best light on a situation, helping to portray issues, companies, organizations, in a positive way.  That doesn’t mean lying.  (If you have to lie, it’s probably not a very good product.) A good PR person helps a client tell the truth even when it’s not so pleasant. Are you able to connect products and convince people to buy something? http://goo.gl/btP8fk
Forthly are you an excellent writer and speaker, in order to become a good public relations practitioner these are the skills you have to have or at least pretend to have as long as you can maintain it.
Lastly be dedicated in everything you do, have the passion for it and get involved in. Connect yourself through twitter, facebook, blogging etc. And always be objective when it comes to change.

Well hope you enjoyed it and will consider the tips, stay tuned for my next blog till then.

ALL OF ME

Me, Myself and I

My very first blog, super excited and hope you guys will enjoy it. I’ll be writing about everything that’s anything about me, my surroundings and the type of life I live and what I get up to. Starting with an introduction my name is Chisomo “Grace” Khakhobwe, a second year student from the University of Johannesburg studying Public Relations and Communications (media) from Turffontein and I’m 20 years of age. First born of three children and I know pressure is on me since the little ones look up to me. Love my family to death, they are my everything and without them I know I’d be a lost soul. I’m a very simple person very outgoing though people think I’m crazy and weird, because they don’t understand the type of person I am and don’t get me most of the times and my brother thinks I’m nerdy because I’m not as cool as him but guess what I really don’t care because behind my eyes I’m one of the coolest people I know. Huge fan of art, fashion, music (Hip Hop, RnB and Pop) and FOOD yum.

Currently single, boys are a waste of time and energy. Model in the making and currently working on a very big project and soon to be Africa’s next model well just kidding, that’s a dream I’ll never wake up from. Working towards my dreams which is to be a part of South Africa’s biggest advertising company or the media industry in general. Don’t really have an interesting life but how ever I do live my life to the fullest. Jesus is my superhero and living my life to impress him. Think that’s it for today, but do stay tuned for more and hope you do enjoy.
